"The eyes are the windows to the soul". This famous saying underscores the
importance of the appearance of the eyes to how other people view an individual.
With aging, there is a loss of elasticity to the eyelid skin which may result in
"stretching" or an excess of skin giving the appearance of sagging eyes. In
addition, the fat which normally protects the eyeball from the bony eye socket
can sometimes pooch out into the area under the eye, making the face look much
older. Many people with this condition are asked if they are tired or sleepy
when they are not at all!
Blepharoplasty
Procedure
Blepharoplasty, or "eye tuck" is procedure by which excess fat and excess
skin is removed from the eyelids and region around the eyes to give a more
youthful, energetic appearance. This relatively short and simple procedure can
be performed with hidden incisions with minimal downtime to give a dramatic
improvement in appearance. Hidden incisions inside the lower eyelid and/or
external incisions placed strategically within eyelid creases allow the surgeon
to remove excess skin and fat. This procedure is usually performed on an
outpatient basis and is usually done in conjunction with other facial
rejuvenation procedures such as facelift and/or
laser
resurfacing. However, an upper lid Blepharoplasty may be available in
the office setting.
Recovery From
Blepharoplasty
There is usually some mild swelling a bruising around the eyes. The stitches
are usually well hidden and are removed around 5 days after surgery. Sometimes,
patients experience dryness of the eyes with the tightening of the eyelids but
this usually resolves.
Intended Results From
Blepharoplasty
Rejuvenation of the eyes results in a dramatic improvement in
appearance. Friends and family usually comment on how much more energetic and
positive your appearance looks. We do not believe in changing the shape of the eyes
but rather giving you the appearance you once had when you were younger. The
tired, puffy eyed appearance is replaced with a younger, brighter more energetic
look.
