Horizontal forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, and frown lines are the
result of overactive muscles of facial expression. These cause chronic wrinkling
of the skin that remains noticeable even after the muscles have relaxed. The
result is an aged, sometimes angry look. Previously, surgery was the only
alternative. Fortunately, a new, less expensive, outpatient procedure can
correct this problem.
Botox
Procedure
The procedure is done in the office and only takes a few minutes. Minute
amounts of Botox are precisely injected into the forehead, the area between the
eyebrows, and along the "crow's feet" or outside corner of the eyes to
selectively paralyze the muscles causing the wrinkles. A micro-needle is
used for these injections.
Recovery from Botox
Injection
The recovery is almost immediate. Sometimes a small amount of pinpoint
bruising can occur, but this is rare. The full effect of Botox is seen after 5-7
days. Patients are asked to work the muscles that were injected in order to
facilitate the effects of Botox, but are discouraged from massaging the areas
injected.
Expected Results from
Botox
Almost all patients are uniformly pleased with the results from Botox.
Dr.Dyce and
Dr.Puchalski use the recommended amount of Botox in each site for
the best results. The results rival surgery at a fraction of the time and cost.
However, unlike surgery, the results last about 4-6 months and repeat injections
are necessary. Regardless, Botox is an excellent way to achieve facial
rejuvenation with little cost and no downtime. Botox injection cost $300
for 25 units. Patients may require more than 25 units if they wish to
treat many areas of the face. The average cost of a Botox injection is in
the mid $300 range.
