Dermabrasion ("Mechanical Skin Resurfacing")

As men and women age, the skin changes in texture, color, and loses elasticity.  While surgical lift procedures do a great job at tightening sagging skin and jowls, they don’t eliminate the fine wrinkles.  Resurfacing techniques utilizing chemical, mechanical, or laser modalities are more appropriate for these fine lines and irregular pigmentation.  Which method to employ depends on the areas to be treated and on your specific skin type.  We employ all methods at Carolina Cosmetics and select and combine the modalities to best suit your needs.  The area around the mouth is particularly responsive to dermabrasion as are some types of raised scars.

Dermabrasion Procedure

This procedure can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia depending on the surface area to be treated.  A diamond fraise or brush wheel spins rapidly guided by the precision control of the operating surgeon.  The superficial layers of the epidermis and the dermis are taken down as deep as the reticular dermis.  The skin recovers creating new rejuvenated and even toned skin with less fine wrinkles.

Recovery From Dermabrasion

Recovery is relatively benign in the sense that you will feel great soon after the procedure although you will look terrible for the first week to two while the treated areas weep and appear very red.  Ointment is applied to speed healing.  Carolina Cosmetics does carry cosmetics however, that can be applied during the healing phase to camouflage the immediate post surgical change.
