Facial Fat Injection ("Liposculpting")

Through the aging process, our outer shells stretch and sag under the constant stress of daily living while our contents within atrophy and shrink.  Surgical lifting procedures do a wonderful job at tightening the outer shell but do little to address the atrophy of contents within.  Injectable filler materials such as collagen products (Cosmoderm, Cosmoplast), hyaluronic acid gel (Restylane), micronized dermis (Cymetra) and many others have become popular to rejuvenate but each has limited longevity and comes from an outside source.  Fat on the other hand is thought to last longer theoretically and is also readily available in other sites of the body.  Carolina Cosmetics offers many options for injectable fillers depending on your goals and anatomy.

Liposculpting Procedure

Under local anesthesia with or without twilight sedation, a tumescent injection is performed at the donor site and fat is harvested from one of a variety of areas of the body (usually from an incision hidden around your belly button).  Fat is suctioned from the abdomen with a small liposuction cannula and syringe following which it is transferred to smaller syringes and eventually reinjected into the deficient recipient sites.  A pressure dressing is usually applied to the donor site area to minimize any chance of bleeding and reduce bruising.

Recovery From Liposculpting

Recovery is relatively benign although there may be a significant bruising especially at the donor site.  Most of the bruising will resolve by about one week following the fat transfers.
