Microdermabrasion is an intense exfoliation process that rejuvenates the skin
by using fine corundum crystals to remove the upper layer of the skin. At the
same time, the hand piece of the instrument contains a vacuum tube that sweeps
up both the crystals and the skin's cellular debris. This process exfoliates the
skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin which will result in
firmer, more youthful looking skin over time. This offers a good alternative to
chemical peels, dermabrasion, and CO2 laser resurfacing.
Microdermabrasion Procedure
The procedure is done in the office by a technician under the direct
supervision of Dr.
Puchalski. With the aid of micro-crystals
vacuumed through a delicate hand piece, held at a precise angle to the skin, a
technician effects a superficial skin polishing. In as little as 30-45 minutes,
this gentle abrasive technique efficiently produces satisfying results.
Treatments are performed through a course of bi-monthly sessions. The
procedure itself has been described to feel like a "cat's lick", or a very fine
buffing of the skin.
Recovery from Microdermabrasion
Mild redness can be expected for 1-4 hours and approximates a "wind burn". No
anesthetics or pain medication is required. The quick recovery has earned the
procedure the nick name, "the lunch-time peel".
